Worship of Ganapati by Advocate Ashok Kumar Singh and the Legal Fraternity at Alipore Criminal Court

Worship of Ganapati by Advocate Ashok Kumar Singh and the Legal Fraternity at Alipore Criminal Court

For more than a decade, the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi at the Alipore Criminal Court, Kolkata, has become a meaningful tradition initiated by Advocate Ashok Kumar Singh. With deep devotion to Lord Ganapati—the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of wisdom—Advocate Singh began this practice ten years ago, transforming his chamber into a place of prayer and cultural fellowship.

Each year, a clay idol of Lord Ganesha is installed in his chamber. The rituals are performed with simplicity and reverence: chanting of mantras, offering of flowers, fruits, and modaks, and the daily aarti. The gentle light of the lamp, the fragrance of incense, and the collective devotion create an atmosphere of serenity amidst the otherwise demanding routines of legal practice.

What makes this tradition truly special is the enthusiastic participation of the legal fraternity. Over the years, several distinguished advocates and colleagues have joined in the worship, including Sri Sanjib Bandyopadhyay Advocate, Alokasish Bandyopadhyay Advocate, Mukulda Advocate, Rabindranath Das, Santu Majumdar Advocate, Sanjoy Das Advocate, Deobrat Singh Advocate, Digbijoy Nag Advocate, Tanima Biswas Advocate, Kanchan Advocate, Biplab Advocate, Pritam Das Advocate, Pritilata Sardar Advocate, Madhusudan Sardar Advocate, Shewtalina Majumdar Advocate, Samir Saha Advocate, Mangal Santra Advocate, Kuntal Advocate, Manabda Advocate, Tirthankar Roy Advocate, and many others. Their presence has transformed the occasion from a private act of devotion into a collective celebration of faith and fellowship.

The worship of Ganapati by Advocate Ashok Kumar Singh has thus become a symbol of harmony, reminding all that beyond the adversarial atmosphere of the courtroom, there exists a deeper unity in shared values and traditions. Lord Ganapati, revered as the giver of wisdom and remover of obstacles, inspires advocates to approach their profession with clarity, patience, and humility.

This tradition has grown into an anticipated event within the court, not only enriching the spiritual lives of those who participate but also strengthening bonds within the legal community. It stands as a testament to the idea that law and devotion can coexist gracefully, and that in the pursuit of justice, wisdom and faith go hand in hand.
