The Shravana (also spelled Sawan) is considered the most sacred month dedicated to Shiva in Hinduism. It usually falls during July–August.
During this month, devotees:
- Observe Shravan Somvar (Monday) fasts dedicated to Lord Shiva.
- Offer water, milk, honey, bael (bilva) leaves, dhatura flowers, and fruits to the Shiva Lingam.
- Chant "Om Namah Shivaya" and recite the Shiva Chalisa, Rudrashtakam, or Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra.
- Visit Shiva temples, especially on Mondays.
- Many devotees participate in the Kanwar Yatra, carrying holy water from the Ganga to offer to Shiva.
According to Hindu tradition, worshipping Lord Shiva during Shravan is believed to bring:
- Peace of mind and spiritual growth.
- Good health and protection.
- Prosperity and success.
- Harmony in family life.
- Fulfillment of sincere prayers.
A popular mantra for this month is:
ॐ नमः शिवाय
Om Namah Shivaya
"I bow to Lord Shiva."
Har Har Mahadev! 🙏
