Humanity Must Prevail Over Opportunism

Humanity Must Prevail Over Opportunism

A Message of Courage, Compassion, and Responsible Administration

“Vultures survive on dead bodies, whereas human beings survive on humanity.”

The difference between the two is unmistakable. Vultures feed upon death, but human beings are expected to stand for compassion, dignity, solidarity, and the preservation of life. Humanity is not merely a word; it is a moral responsibility that becomes most meaningful when society faces tragedy, suffering, and uncertainty.

Whenever an unfortunate incident occurs, the first responsibility of a civilised society is to stand beside the affected families, extend every possible assistance to those in distress, and ensure that the truth emerges through a fair and impartial investigation. Such moments demand sensitivity, restraint, and responsible leadership—not the exploitation of human suffering for personal, political, or organisational interests.

The Chorbagan Incident: Humanity Must Come First

The unfortunate incident at Chorbagan has caused pain and concern. If the incident was accidental, as presently understood, it deserves to be addressed with compassion, seriousness, and administrative responsibility. At the same time, every relevant fact must be carefully examined before any final conclusion is drawn.

An accident must not become an opportunity for the exploitation of grief, and a tragedy must never be used as an instrument for creating further discord.

The immediate priorities should be the welfare of the affected people, assistance to the victims and their families, the establishment of the actual sequence of events, and the adoption of appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Mr. Adhikari, Continue Your Responsible Work

Mr. Adhikari, you have been attempting to address the situation in the manner expected of a sensible human being and a responsible administrator. In difficult circumstances, the ability to remain composed, respond to genuine human needs, and discharge one's responsibilities without being distracted by unnecessary controversy is a mark of maturity and leadership.

Administration is not merely about exercising authority. It is about protecting people, resolving problems, maintaining public confidence, and ensuring that the machinery of governance remains responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens.

A responsible administrator must have the courage to listen to criticism, the wisdom to distinguish constructive suggestions from deliberate provocation, and the determination to act in accordance with facts and law.

Investigate Every Credible Possibility of Sabotage

Alongside the immediate response, it is important to examine whether any evidence points towards negligence, deliberate interference, or sabotage. If credible circumstances raise such questions, the competent authorities should investigate them professionally and impartially.

No possibility supported by relevant evidence should be overlooked. Equally, no individual or organisation should be accused without adequate grounds.

The objective must be to establish the truth, identify any actual wrongdoing, determine responsibility, and ensure that appropriate legal action follows wherever an offence is proved.

Let evidence speak. Let the investigation remain impartial. Let justice prevail over speculation.

Human Welfare Must Never Become a Threat to Vested Interests

The welfare of ordinary people should be the common objective of every responsible institution and public representative. Yet, in many difficult situations, vested interests may resist transparency, accountability, reform, or decisions that place public welfare above private advantage.

Whenever such a possibility arises, the answer must be greater transparency, stronger institutional accountability, and a steadfast commitment to the public good.

No personal interest, political calculation, or organisational agenda should be allowed to outweigh the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of human beings.

The true test of leadership is not whether everyone agrees with a decision, but whether that decision is guided by fairness, evidence, compassion, and the legitimate interests of the people.

Do Not Stop. Continue Your Mission.

Mr. Adhikari, do not allow pressure, discouragement, or unnecessary controversy to divert you from your legitimate responsibilities. Continue your work with patience, courage, integrity, and a clear sense of purpose.

Remain accessible to the people. Hear their concerns. Examine the facts. Correct mistakes where necessary. Take firm action where the law requires it, and ensure that the innocent are not made to suffer.

Remember that public trust is earned through consistent conduct, not through grand declarations. A humane and effective administration can inspire confidence even during the most challenging circumstances.

There are people who value sincerity, responsible governance, and a genuine commitment to public welfare. Those who believe in these principles will continue to support every lawful and constructive effort to protect the interests of society.

People stand with those who stand for humanity, justice, and the public good.

Let compassion guide our response to tragedy. Let truth guide our investigations. Let courage guide our decisions. And let humanity remain the foundation of every action taken in the service of society.

SHADOW EVERY THREAT, SAFEGUARD BHARAT

SHADOW EVERY THREAT, SAFEGUARD BHARAT

A Call for Intelligence Vigilance, National Security, and the Protection of Public Order

Bharat may have been spared a potential episode of chaos this time, but we must never allow temporary relief to turn into complacency. The forces and interests that seek to weaken our national unity, disturb public peace, or undermine our constitutional institutions must be taken seriously. Any allegation of foreign involvement, however, must be examined through credible intelligence, verifiable evidence, and lawful investigation rather than assumption.

The security of Bharat demands continuous vigilance, strategic foresight, and an intelligence network capable of identifying genuine threats before they develop into serious crises.

1. Anticipate the Threat Before It Becomes a Crisis

National security cannot depend exclusively on reacting after violence, sabotage, or widespread disorder has occurred. The real test of an effective security system lies in its ability to identify warning signs, assess emerging risks, connect relevant information, and take preventive action within the framework of law.

If hostile foreign interests attempt to exploit domestic grievances, encourage violent extremism, finance unlawful activities, or deepen social divisions, our institutions must be prepared to expose such operations through professional investigation and reliable intelligence.

The objective must be clear: identify the threat early, establish the facts, prevent the harm, and protect innocent citizens.

2. Strengthen the Intelligence Network Across Bharat

India's vast geographical expanse, cultural diversity, and complex security environment require effective coordination between intelligence agencies, central security institutions, State Police forces, and local administrations.

Where necessary, appropriate regional intelligence units and coordination centres may be strengthened to ensure that information from every district, block, town, and vulnerable locality reaches the competent authorities without unnecessary delay.

Such arrangements should include:

  • Regional intelligence coordination: Improve communication between central and State agencies, district intelligence units, and local police stations.

  • Professional intelligence officers: Deploy properly trained personnel with the expertise to assess credible threats, distinguish facts from rumours, and identify patterns associated with unlawful activity.

  • Timely information-sharing: Establish secure channels through which relevant intelligence can be verified, analysed, and acted upon.

  • Early-warning mechanisms: Develop procedures for identifying credible indications of planned violence, organised intimidation, sabotage, or unlawful financing.

  • Accountability and oversight: Ensure that intelligence collection remains proportionate, legally authorised, and subject to appropriate safeguards against misuse.

Every region deserves adequate security attention. However, intelligence resources should be allocated according to assessed risks and credible indicators, rather than indiscriminate suspicion of entire communities or groups.

3. Make Citizens Partners in National Security

The ordinary citizen is often the first person to notice an unusual occurrence in a neighbourhood, workplace, transport hub, or public institution. Responsible public participation can therefore strengthen the country's ability to prevent crime and protect public order.

A structured public-information system may encourage citizens to report credible information concerning planned violence, suspicious financial transactions connected to suspected offences, threats against public safety, or other verifiable indications of unlawful activity.

Where legally permissible, authorities may offer transparent rewards for information that materially assists in preventing serious offences or solving significant cases. Such programmes should have clear eligibility rules, independent verification, safeguards against fabricated allegations, and protection against retaliation.

At the same time, citizen vigilance must never become private policing, vigilantism, or indiscriminate surveillance of innocent people.

The expression “man marking” should not be understood as authorising ordinary citizens to follow, intimidate, photograph, or target individuals merely because they appear different or hold unpopular opinions. Monitoring and surveillance, where necessary, must remain within lawful authority.

Citizens should report facts to competent authorities and allow trained investigators to determine whether an offence has occurred. No one should take the law into their own hands.

4. Investigate the Money Behind Organised Disorder

Public unrest can sometimes be aggravated by organised networks that exploit genuine grievances, circulate inflammatory material, or finance unlawful activities. Where credible evidence indicates that money is being channelled to support violence, sabotage, or criminal conspiracies, the financial trail must be investigated thoroughly.

Investigators should follow documentary evidence, banking records, lawful financial intelligence, and other admissible material to establish the source, destination, purpose, and beneficiaries of suspicious transactions.

If foreign funding is suspected, the investigation must determine whether the transactions violate applicable Indian law and whether they are connected to demonstrable unlawful conduct.

The investigation must be evidence-based. Foreign funding, political disagreement, civil-society activity, or public criticism should not automatically be treated as proof of a conspiracy.

Follow the evidence, expose the actual network, identify the responsible individuals, and prosecute proven offences.

This is how a constitutional democracy can protect itself without compromising the principles it seeks to defend.

5. Distinguish Peace-Loving Citizens from Those Who Engineer Violence

The people of Bharat, in their overwhelming diversity, have a powerful interest in peace, stability, economic progress, and the security of their families. They want education for their children, employment for the youth, dignity for their communities, and opportunities for a better future.

Ordinary citizens should not have to suffer because organised groups seek to exploit social tensions for their own purposes.

Yet public anger must not be allowed to become a weapon against innocent people. Authorities must distinguish between peaceful demonstrators, legitimate political opposition, genuine grievances, and individuals who deliberately organise violence or commit criminal acts.

A protest does not become unlawful merely because it is inconvenient to those in authority. Equally, no one can claim immunity for violence or other criminal conduct merely by describing it as protest.

The Constitution protects lawful dissent while permitting reasonable restrictions on freedom of expression on the grounds specified in Article 19(2). The law must be applied carefully, impartially, and consistently.

6. Long-Term Planning Is Stronger Than Panic-Driven Action

The protection of Bharat requires sustained institutional preparation rather than hurried reactions to each emerging crisis.

A comprehensive national strategy should include:

  1. Regular assessment of credible internal and external security risks.

  2. Better coordination between intelligence agencies and State Police forces.

  3. Professional training in intelligence analysis, cyber investigations, financial investigations, and the prevention of violent extremism.

  4. Secure reporting mechanisms for citizens and protection for genuine informants.

  5. Rapid verification of emerging threats to prevent rumours from triggering panic.

  6. Public awareness programmes that promote social harmony, constitutional literacy, and responsible use of digital platforms.

  7. Independent review of security operations to prevent abuse of authority and protect innocent persons.

Such planning must be sustained, adaptable, and supported by appropriate legal authority. Its success should be measured not by the number of people monitored or questioned, but by the prevention of genuine harm, the disruption of proven criminal networks, and the preservation of public confidence.

7. Do Not Hesitate to Punish Proven Offences—But Never Abandon Justice

Those who deliberately organise violent attacks, participate in criminal conspiracies, finance unlawful violence, or commit other offences must face the consequences prescribed by law.

There must be no special immunity for the influential, the wealthy, the politically connected, or those acting on behalf of hostile interests.

However, punishment must follow investigation, admissible evidence, a fair trial, and the procedures established by law. An allegation is not a conviction, and suspicion alone cannot justify punishment.

Firm enforcement and constitutional restraint are not contradictory; they are complementary pillars of a strong republic.

An effective State must be capable of acting decisively against genuine threats while remaining disciplined enough to protect the rights of innocent citizens.

8. Bharat Must Remain Vigilant, United, and Unshakable

Our national security cannot be entrusted to intelligence agencies alone. It requires responsible institutions, alert citizens, professional law-enforcement personnel, informed public debate, and a society that refuses to be divided by manufactured hatred.

We must neither underestimate genuine threats nor invent enemies without evidence. We must neither surrender to complacency nor allow fear to replace reason.

The ultimate objective is not to create a nation in which every citizen suspects every other citizen. It is to build a nation in which genuine threats are detected, unlawful networks are exposed, innocent people are protected, and public peace is maintained through justice and constitutional governance.

Let Bharat be prepared before a crisis begins. Let every credible warning receive professional attention. Let every proven offence be dealt with firmly. And let no individual or organisation be permitted to destroy the peace of millions through violence, intimidation, or criminal conspiracy.

A vigilant Bharat is a stronger Bharat. A united Bharat is a resilient Bharat. A Bharat governed by justice is a Bharat that cannot easily be broken.

“First burn and then douse down the fire” — অর্থাৎ, “প্রথমে আগুন জ্বালাও, তারপর সেই আগুন নেভানোর ভান করো” — বর্তমান বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে এই কৌশল অনুসরণ করা হচ্ছে বলে মনে হয়।

First Ignite the Fire, Then Pretend to Extinguish It

First Ignite the Fire, Then Pretend to Extinguish It

A Message on National Security, Responsible Freedom, and the Unity of Bharat

“First burn, and then douse down the fire” — this appears to be a formula that is repeatedly employed in different parts of the world. Create unrest, fuel divisions, provoke confrontations, weaken public confidence, and then step forward as a peacemaker, claiming to be the one who can restore peace and normalcy.

The greatest danger of such a strategy lies in its deceptive appearance. Those who contribute to creating instability may later present themselves as defenders of peace. By the time the truth becomes apparent, society may already have suffered considerable damage to its unity, harmony, security, and collective confidence.

Bharat, with its civilisational heritage, democratic institutions, cultural diversity, and strategic importance, must remain vigilant against every attempt to disturb its peace and weaken its national unity. Our country has survived numerous challenges throughout its long history. Its strength lies not merely in its military capabilities or economic progress, but also in the resilience of its people, the wisdom of its constitutional institutions, and their collective commitment to the sovereignty and integrity of the nation.

However, vigilance must be accompanied by wisdom. Every disagreement is not disloyalty, every protest is not anarchy, and every criticism of the Government is not an attack on the nation. A mature democracy must possess the confidence to distinguish between legitimate dissent and deliberate attempts to incite violence, spread hatred, undermine public order, or encourage unlawful activities.

Those who deliberately engage in anti-national violence, organise unlawful activities, incite communal hostility, or attempt to destabilise society must face just, proportionate, and lawful action. No individual or organisation should enjoy immunity merely because it claims a particular ideology, influence, association, or political affiliation. At the same time, no person should be branded an enemy of the nation merely for expressing a peaceful and lawful opinion.

The rule of law must prevail over personal vengeance, political prejudice, and arbitrary authority. Justice must be firm where necessary, fair in every circumstance, and impartial in its application.

Freedom of speech is a precious democratic right, but it must be exercised with responsibility. In India, this freedom is constitutionally protected under Article 19(1)(a), subject to the reasonable restrictions permitted by Article 19(2). The Constitution therefore recognises both the importance of free expression and the necessity of safeguarding legitimate interests such as the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State, public order, and other constitutionally specified grounds.

Freedom must never become a convenient excuse for inciting violence. Equally, national security must never become an excuse for silencing lawful criticism. The distinction between dissent and destruction must be maintained through constitutional principles, credible evidence, due process, and independent judicial scrutiny.

Bharat does not need hatred to demonstrate its strength. It does not need intolerance to defend its identity. It needs alert citizens, responsible public representatives, impartial law-enforcement agencies, an independent judiciary, and a society that refuses to be manipulated by those who profit from division.

Let us not allow anyone to ignite a fire among our people and subsequently claim the honour of extinguishing it. Let us recognise the danger before the flames spread, protect our national interests without abandoning our constitutional values, and preserve the harmony that is essential to our collective future.

Our message must be clear: Peace without weakness, vigilance without paranoia, freedom without irresponsibility, and justice without discrimination.

Let Bharat remain united, strong, peaceful, progressive, and faithful to its constitutional ideals. Let every citizen remember that the protection of our motherland is not merely the responsibility of the Government or the armed forces; it is also a duty of every responsible citizen.

RETURN ANIMOSITY WITH VIRTUE

RETURN ANIMOSITY WITH VIRTUE

The Strength of Character Lies in Choosing Goodness Over Hatred

“Do not allow another person's animosity to determine the quality of your character. Let their hostility reveal their choices, and let your virtue reveal yours.”

— Ashok Kumar Singh, Advocate High Court Calcutta

Life brings us into contact with different kinds of people. Some offer affection, trust and cooperation, while others may respond with hostility, jealousy, resentment or deliberate provocation. Sometimes, even after we have extended our goodwill, helped others in difficult circumstances or treated them with dignity, we may find ourselves confronted with ingratitude, misunderstanding or animosity.

Such experiences can be painful. They can challenge our patience, disturb our peace of mind and tempt us to respond in the same manner in which we have been treated.

But this is precisely where the real test of character begins.

When someone returns your goodwill with hostility, do not automatically return hostility in exchange. Return animosity with virtue.

This does not mean that we should be weak, submissive or indifferent to injustice. It means that we should possess sufficient self-control to ensure that another person's misconduct does not dictate our own behaviour.

Anyone can react with anger. Anyone can exchange insults, nurture resentment or seek revenge. But it requires wisdom to remain composed, courage to act with dignity and strength of character to preserve one's principles even when others abandon theirs.

1. Do Not Become What You Oppose

When we encounter hostility, our first instinct may be to retaliate. We may feel that silence will be interpreted as weakness, forgiveness as surrender and kindness as an invitation to further mistreatment.

But retaliation does not always establish strength. Sometimes, it merely allows another person's conduct to control our emotions and decisions.

If someone behaves dishonestly, we need not abandon honesty. If someone speaks abusively, we need not imitate their language. If someone attempts to provoke us, we need not surrender our peace of mind to their provocation.

The character of another person is reflected in their actions; your character is reflected in your response.

Never allow someone else's bitterness to turn you into a bitter person. Do not permit another person's jealousy to make you envious, their arrogance to make you cruel, or their hostility to deprive you of your humanity.

You may oppose their actions firmly without adopting their methods. You may reject their conduct without harbouring an endless desire to destroy them.

The objective is not to prove that you can be as hostile as your adversary. The objective is to demonstrate that you can remain principled even in the presence of hostility.

2. Virtue Is Strength, Not Weakness

There is a common misconception that kindness is a sign of weakness and that a person must respond aggressively to every insult to preserve their dignity.

True strength, however, is not measured by the intensity of one's anger or the severity of one's retaliation. It is measured by the ability to exercise judgment when emotions demand an immediate reaction.

Virtue requires discipline. It requires us to distinguish between what we feel and what we ought to do.

A person may be angry and still speak responsibly. A person may be deeply hurt and still refuse to humiliate another. A person may encounter injustice and still insist upon lawful remedies rather than personal vengeance.

Such restraint is not cowardice. It is the exercise of conscious control over one's own conduct.

Returning animosity with virtue means choosing honesty over deception, dignity over humiliation, patience over impulsiveness and justice over revenge.

It means refusing to allow hatred to become the guiding principle of our lives.

3. Kindness Does Not Require Unlimited Tolerance

Virtue must never be confused with allowing others to exploit us.

Forgiveness does not mean that we must forget every wrong. Compassion does not require us to remain exposed to repeated harm. Patience does not mean tolerating injustice indefinitely, and goodwill does not oblige us to maintain every relationship at any cost.

There are occasions when the most appropriate response is to establish clear boundaries, distance ourselves from destructive circumstances or take firm action to protect our legitimate interests.

We can remain courteous without being submissive. We can be compassionate without being vulnerable to manipulation. We can forgive without restoring trust prematurely.

Return animosity with virtue, but protect your dignity with wisdom.

If someone repeatedly violates your trust, respond with discernment. If someone acts unlawfully, pursue the remedies available under the law. If someone attempts to undermine your reputation, defend the truth through credible evidence and responsible action.

There is no contradiction between being virtuous and being firm. Indeed, virtue becomes more meaningful when it is accompanied by courage, sound judgment and the willingness to stand against wrongdoing.

4. Let Justice Speak Louder Than Revenge

Revenge often promises satisfaction but can keep us emotionally attached to the very person whose conduct has caused us pain.

When we constantly think about how to make another person suffer, we allow that person's actions to occupy our minds long after the original incident has passed.

We lose valuable time, energy and peace of mind in a struggle that may offer no lasting fulfilment.

Justice follows a different path.

Justice seeks truth, accountability and the appropriate consequences of wrongdoing. Revenge seeks personal satisfaction through another person's suffering. The distinction is fundamental.

Where wrongdoing has occurred, it should not be concealed merely in the name of virtue. Facts should be established, rights should be protected and accountability should be pursued through proper channels.

But the pursuit of justice should not become an excuse for cruelty, fabrication or unlawful retaliation.

Let evidence speak. Let reason guide your decisions. Let lawful institutions perform their responsibilities. And let your own conduct remain worthy of the principles you profess.

Do not confuse the refusal to take revenge with the refusal to seek justice.

A virtuous person can be forgiving without being careless, peaceful without being passive and firm without being vindictive.

5. Do Not Let Jealousy or Ingratitude Steal Your Peace

Not everyone will appreciate your efforts. Not everyone will understand your intentions. Some may misunderstand your silence, criticise your success or respond to your goodwill with suspicion.

You cannot control every opinion formed about you, nor can you compel everyone to acknowledge your sincerity.

What you can control is whether you continue to act according to your values.

Do good because goodness is consistent with your principles, not because you expect every person to reward you. Help others when you can do so responsibly, but do not make your happiness dependent upon receiving gratitude in return.

Maintain your standards even when recognition is absent. Continue your legitimate work even when criticism is loud. Learn from justified criticism, correct your mistakes where necessary and disregard malicious provocation that has no constructive purpose.

Your peace should not depend entirely on whether others approve of you.

Let your conscience be your guide, your conduct be your answer and your consistency be your testimony.

6. The Wisdom of Our Indian Philosophy

The principle of responding to hostility with virtue finds a meaningful parallel in India's spiritual and philosophical traditions.

The Bhagavad Gita teaches the importance of self-mastery, disciplined action and freedom from destructive attachments. Its message encourages individuals to perform their duties with sincerity while maintaining steadiness of mind amid success and failure.

The ideal of Ahimsa reminds us that restraint and compassion have a profound place in human conduct. The ideal of Kshama, or forgiveness, teaches us to overcome the impulse to retaliate merely because we have been hurt.

These principles do not demand indifference to wrongdoing. Rather, they encourage us to confront life's difficulties without surrendering our conscience to anger and hatred.

The true spiritual challenge is not simply to speak about goodness when circumstances are favourable. It is to practise goodness when we have a reason to be angry, when retaliation appears tempting and when maintaining our principles requires considerable effort.

It is easy to be courteous to those who treat us well. The greater test is whether we can remain just and dignified when we encounter hostility.

7. Rise Above Animosity Without Becoming Indifferent to Truth

Life is too valuable to be consumed by endless personal conflicts. Our time should be invested in meaningful work, family responsibilities, professional integrity, intellectual growth and service to society.

We must learn to recognise which battles deserve our attention and which provocations deserve no response.

Silence may sometimes be wiser than argument. Distance may sometimes be healthier than continued confrontation. A calm explanation may sometimes achieve more than an angry accusation.

But when truth, justice or the rights of others are at stake, courage may require us to speak, act and resist.

The guiding principle should remain clear: do what is necessary, proportionate and right, without allowing hatred to become your motivation.

Let your opponents encounter firmness where firmness is required, fairness where fairness is due and civility wherever possible.

You do not have to defeat every hostile person in an argument. You do not have to answer every accusation immediately. You do not have to prove your worth to every critic.

Sometimes, the strongest response is to continue living honourably, working diligently and remaining faithful to your responsibilities.

My Message

Let us not measure our strength by the number of people we defeat, the insults we return or the enemies we accumulate.

Let us measure our strength by our ability to remain truthful under pressure, dignified in adversity, compassionate without surrendering our boundaries, and courageous in the face of injustice.

When others offer hatred, do not make hatred the currency of your own life. When others display arrogance, do not abandon humility. When others act unfairly, do not surrender your commitment to fairness.

Respond thoughtfully. Establish boundaries. Protect your rights. Pursue justice. Forgive when you can do so sincerely, and move forward when continued engagement serves no constructive purpose.

Above all, never allow another person's animosity to destroy the goodness within you.

Return animosity with virtue—not because your adversary necessarily deserves your kindness, but because your own character deserves your protection.

Let others make their choices. Let us remain responsible for ours.

Let hatred end with us, let dignity guide us, let justice strengthen us and let virtue define us.

The highest victory is not to become more hostile than the person who hurt you. It is to emerge from the experience wiser, stronger and still committed to what is right.
