A Heartfelt Tribute to Late Shivnath Adhikari (Gabuda)

A Heartfelt Tribute to Late Shivnath Adhikari (Gabuda)

It is with profound grief and a deeply saddened heart that I learned of the passing of our beloved Shivnath Adhikari, affectionately known to all of us as “Gabuda.” The news of his sudden and untimely demise is so shocking and painful that it is still difficult to believe. It feels as though it was only yesterday that we saw him at the Alipore Court—dressed in his familiar court attire, quietly attending to his duties with a calm expression, gentle manners and remarkable sincerity. Today, he has become a cherished memory.

Shivnath Adhikari was genuinely one of the most honest, humble, courteous and selfless persons I have ever known. His words were always measured, his conduct dignified and his way of life remarkably simple. He never allowed pride, pretence or personal interest to influence his character. He lived quietly and honourably, remaining faithful to his principles and values. People like him seldom speak about their own virtues; their honesty, integrity, dedication and humane conduct become their true identity.

The Alipore Court has not merely lost a familiar member of its fraternity—it has lost a sincere, incorruptible, unassuming and universally respected individual. His familiar presence in the court premises, his composed demeanour, courteous conversation and affectionate treatment of his colleagues will remain etched in our memories for years to come. Beyond his professional life, he was a kind-hearted human being who treated everyone with dignity and respect.

The void created by the departure of such a good person cannot easily be filled. On hearing this heartbreaking news, the same questions repeatedly arise in my mind: “How could this happen? What happened to him so suddenly?” It is extremely difficult to accept this cruel decision of destiny. The painful thought that we shall no longer see him walking through the familiar corridors of the Alipore Court or hear his gentle voice is truly unbearable.

Dear Gabuda, you may have departed from our sight, but the memories of your honesty, simplicity, humility and affectionate conduct will never fade away. A person continues to live through his deeds, principles and humanity even after death. You, too, will remain alive forever in our hearts and in the collective memory of the Alipore Court fraternity as a truly noble human being.

Wherever you may be, remain in eternal peace, Dada. May the Almighty grant everlasting peace to your departed soul and accord you a place in His heavenly abode. May God also give strength and courage to your bereaved family members, relatives, colleagues, friends and well-wishers to endure this irreparable loss.

Your absence will always be deeply felt. You will never be forgotten.

Om Shanti. Om Shanti. Om Shanti.
My humble and heartfelt tribute to the sacred memory of Shivnath Adhikari—our beloved Gabuda.
